Boxing world says Nelson is a knock-out

JOHNNY Nelson  is presented with a world boxing award  together with praise for his achievements from the

Minister of Sport Rt. Hon. Richard Caborn MP.

The World Boxing Organisation at their convention meeting in Fort Lauderdale Florida USA  agreed to present the Sheffield boxing star with their  Outstanding Champion Trophy for his achievements in the sport.
Nelson quit the ring in autumn 2008 at 39 years of age after 12 years at the top of his trade.  In that time he defended his WBO cruiserweight title 12 times .
At a ceremony in England at the St Thomas' gym at Wincobank Sheffield where it all started Mr Caborn said,

" It was a great accolade for Nelson  for Sheffield and for boxing in the UK."
Johnny has been a great inspiration for all kids  and this award is fully deserved. It underlines the success of the gym and what can be achieved from here.
"He is an ambassador for the sport and a lot of youngsters look up to him".
His former trainer Brendan Ingle said " Johnny Nelson  had been a wonderful inspiration and that he had been great for Sheffield and great for the the gym."
Mr Ingle added: "Johnny first came here when he was just 14 years old and  loved training. He never missed a day. Johnny was very professional all through and he deserves the award."
